New letterboxing glossary

From: Silent Doug (silentdoug@douglasgerlach.com) | Date: 2003-08-09 14:24:18 UTC-04:00
I finally wrapped up a little project for my web site -- a glossary of
letterboxing terms. I've created definitions of more than 100 related words
and phrases, and included hyperlink references, illustrations and web site
links where relevant.

You can check it out here:
http://www.letterboxing.info/glossary/

I welcome feedback, suggestions for new terms or links -- just drop me an
email with your comments.

I do plan on continuing to expand the glossary, but I think it's reached a
critical mass by now so I'm releasing it to the world.

Doug

Whoops - sorry for the double post - got a bit carried away in my excitement
:-))
What a wonderful resource Doug! I have a couple more terms for you:

Boxious: an adjective to describe something as amenable to letterboxing
(e.g., "Wow - look at that boxious rock over there").

Litterboxing: (nothing to do with abandoned boxes, cf. litterbox) but the
concept of restoring karmic balance by removing more litter that what is
introduced by the placing of a box.

Cheers,

Judi

WOW! Thanks, Doug! This clears up quite a few things that have come
up lately... and answered some questions that I wasn't going to ask.
It is really great to have all the terms in one place too... very
comprehensive. This is going to really help a lot of us, I think.

Another excellent source! Thanks! You might want to add;
Hazards - bears, black flies, cliffs, cougars, dead gerbils, dogs
on leashes but the the owners have no control, dry lake beds that
aren't, fog, horse flies, mosquitos as big as birds, noseeums, lizards
(naturally), poison ivy/oak, rocks/boulders, satanic squirrels,
snakes, spiders and their webs, swamps, and for all in the north,
snow drifts.
Feel free to add if I've missed anything,
Psychomommy

I think she is referring to black squirrels. If not, then the
squirrel that ripped-up and mutilated my canvas, patio umbrella.

For all newbies so they don't have to go to search for answers;
Bears - mtns and backyards all over the US and Canada
black flies - New England
cliffs - west coast(Pandora) east coast(Chuck sans Molly)
cougars- VA,MD & PA and the wild wild west
dead gerbils- CT or MA can't recall, they even had a special event
to commemorate it
dogs- again I think it was up in New England somewhere
dry lake beds- MD during last falls drought
fog- east coast, west coast, take your pick
horse flies- NJ,DE,MD,VA,NC,SC shore lines
mosquitos- damn there everywhere
noseeums- ditto
lizards- in lizardbutt's pants, FL, any place tropical, Calif,
southwest, mid west, fake ones in geocache boxes, just about all over
during warmer climates
poison ivy/oak- self explanatory
rocks/boulders- when you least expect them, watch out for snakes
satanic squirrels- definitely in San Francisco, esp. on Stanford
campus, DC crawling up Firefys pants leg
snakes- see lizards, hiding in rocks, rattlers and copperheads
spiders and webs- some poor guy got severly bitten (again I can't
quite remember what part of the country) and of course those pesky
webs that are strung up on the trails
swamps- any area east of the Mississippi
snow drifts- again self explanatory, why anyone would go out during
a blizzard is beyond help! Then you Do have the L'boxing sickness.
